BUSINESS MEETING
Meeting called to order at 6:37pm. With poor weather winter conditions, evening was abbreviated to business and dinner only.
- Guests: Walt Hedges was welcomed to his second meeting.
- Minutes from 12/11/14 meeting were accepted, motioned and approved.
- Treasurer’s report: 1/08/15 balance is $2,169.72. The second half of the IATC annual dues will be due Q1. Part of past month’s expenses included $83.76, cost for two-year website hosting on GoDaddy (paid through 12/16). Report was accepted, motioned and approved.
- New Club website is torchfoxvalley.org. Barbara advised there is a link from old FOCOL address to new one, and suggested if you have a bookmark, it updated with new site address. Former address and link will work through 3/31/15, after which time FOCOL will be officially disbanded. There is also a new email address for folks to contact the Club: TorchFV@torchfoxvalley.org. This email link is on every page of the new website. Barbara has login and password and is willing to share if desired. She kindly offered to check email inbox routinely in case there are any messages. Richard thanked Barbara for getting new site in place.
- New Business:
a: Approval of membership application of Walt Hedges. Walt was accepted as a new member. - Old Business:
a. As follow-up to two IATC documents emailed before the meeting, the question was posed: “How much emphasis do we want to place on Torch International membership drive?” IATC’s 100th anniversary will be in 2024 (started 1924), their goal is to build membership between now and the centennial. After solid discussion, consensus is to invest energy in our Club’s viability and sustainability. Our core is folks exchanging and sharing ideas; we are not public speakers. Our size and dynamics are good. We will continue to recruit, to replenish our membership as folks move on. There would need to be two ‘spark plugs’ to initiate another chapter in a different community. One enthusiastic person would be from that area and the other from our Club, willing to guide and foster new location, a time-consuming effort for both parties. - Announcements:
a. Mary brought Noonhour Philosophers schedule offering lectures from 1/07 through 4/29.
b: Peter recommended 1/05/15 ‘Time’ Magazine article on Desalination, for those further interested on topic from his March 2014 talk on Water. - Business segment adjourned at 7:10pm for dinner.
Next meeting is 2/12/15; speaker Amy Oberg will present ‘The Future of the Brain’.
